Bio
Shannon Hughes, LCSW, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She earned her B.S.W. and B.A. in Psychology from Kean University and her M.S.W. from Fordham University. Shannon has worked in a variety of mental health settings, including inpatient, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, outpatient, and criminal justice settings, supporting individuals with mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders.
Since becoming a clinical supervisor in 2013, Shannon has supervised and mentored numerous clinicians as they pursue professional licensure, refine their clinical judgment, and cultivate their professional identity. After many years of balancing private practice with other clinical roles, Shannon transitioned to full-time private practice. She has also served as an adjunct instructor at Rutgers School of Social Work and Monmouth University.
Her research focuses on how early-career clinicians develop self-efficacy when working with high-acuity clients, including those experiencing suicidality, with particular attention to the role of supervision, training, and organizational support. Outside of her professional roles, Shannon enjoys attending concerts, spending time with her dogs, and walking the boardwalk with her partner, Sean.
